Globe Theatre,

LIFE
Who in the Johnny’s performed in the renewal performance in 2004?
◆The Globe Tokyo was opened on April 8th, 1988 with the core principle of promoting Shakespeare’s plays. The external appearance is the replica of the Globe Theatre of London where Shakespeare was active. The “apron stage” (thrust stage) like the one existed in Shakespeare’s time and the 3-floored Globe surrounding the audience are the features.

Since its opening, The Globe Tokyo has become the stage for Shakespearean plays performed by British, Swedish, Canadian, Romanian, Chinese, and Australian. It has played a central role for the acceleration of the Shakespearean boom in Japan.

After the temporary closure, the screening of J Storm’s first movie, “Pika☆nchi”,( in which Arashi acted in a movie for the first time) drew the new start line for The Tokyo Globe.
After the renovation of the seats and the lobby which lasted for approximately 6 months, it came a new theatre featuring unity and realistic sensation that are unique to “Globe Theatre” and as well as a theatre with the newest equipment. The performance commemorating the reopening was “Romeo and Juliet” (leading performer: Noriyuki Higashiyama). Since it became the “modern Globe Theatre”, performances of various genres such as musical, movie, and dance have been carried out here.
